Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs

Map

The Cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Site form a 12-km strip running parallel to the coast. The main features of this landscape are the spectacularly steep cliffs that make it easy to find outstanding views of the Mediterranean Sea, such as the one from Torre de Maro.

Maro-Cerro Gordo is home to numerous protected botanical species rarely found elsewhere in Andalusia. Also of note is the rich seabed, especially the orange coral, a species classified as Vulnerable to Extinction.

Fish also about, including moray eels and grouper. This is what brings divers and snorkelers to come to its beaches and enjoy the colorful and unusual marine life.

It thus comes as no surprise that the United Nations has declared this Natural Site as SPAMI: Specially Protected Area of Mediterranean Importance.
